Opus Theatre is set to welcome leading international soprano Carly Paoli to inaugurate its World Series of outstanding guest artists, initiated by Artist in Residence Oliver Poole.
Carly Paoli, who provided the voice for Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy, has a rare ‘spinto’ voice, meaning a wide vocal range with great depth, having both a lyric and a dramatic quality.
Spinto sopranos can sing a wide variety of roles, ranging from genuine lyric parts through to histrionically demanding Verdi heroines. She will be singing some of her favourite songs, accompanied by renowned concert pianist and composer Mr Poole on the Phoenix Opus piano.
Ms Paoli is in great demand internationally and has sung with other leading singers including Jose Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Elaine Page and The Tenors. Of Italian and English heritage, she has toured extensively in both countries, in the United States and worldwide.
As previously reported in The Universe, Ms Paoli released her debut album, Singing My Dreams, last year. The album features her debut single Ave Maria.
Ms Paoli, who is a Christian, previously told The Universe that having her rendition of Ave Maria chosen as the official song of the pope’s 2016 Jubilee celebrations was “the biggest honour I’ve had so far”.
Mr Poole has toured extensively, playing with outstanding orchestras as well as giving acclaimed solo performances. He has appeared twice at Opus as a soloist and will be introducing Ms Paoli to audiences there as well as accompanying her on the piano.
The concert will start at 7.30pm on 9th June at Opus Theatre, 24-25 Cambridge Road, Hastings TN34 1DJ [opposite ESK]. Tickets available from Hastings Tourist Information Office and www.opustheatre.co.uk
