The Super Bowl isn’t just about football. For many, it’s about the wings, chili, sliders, chips and dips consumed during the game.
And for Catholic leaders of the cities from the two competing teams in this year’s matchup – San Francisco and Kansas City, Missouri – it’s about food bets on the game’s outcome.
The diocesan website of Kansas City-St Joseph announced the food wager between Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of San Francisco and Bishop James V. Johnston Jr. of Kansas City-St Joseph for today’s Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
If the San Francisco 49ers lose, Archbishop Cordileone will send Dungeness Crabs, a Fisherman’s Wharf treat, to Bishop Johnston. If the Kansas City Chiefs lose, Archbishop Cordileone will be on the receiving end of steaks from the well-known Kansas City Steak Company.
The bishops are also praying for safe travel, good sportsmanship and play without injury for all involved, the Missouri diocesan website pointed out.
