A Catholic schoolgirl has expressed her delight after her brother, who was selected for England’s World Cup squad, played a major role in their 2-1 victory over Tunisia earlier this week.
Daisy Maguire, who has just finished her A-levels at St Mary’s Catholic High School in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, was delighted to see her brother, Premier League footballer Harry Maguire, named in England’s starting line-up against Tunisia on Monday 18th June.
‘What a day! Seeing my brother start in the World Cup! Come on England,’ she tweeted.
The 25-year-old England defender, who was also educated at St Mary’s and went to the last major football tournament as a Three Lions fan, has already made his mark at this year’s World Cup, helping set up Harry Kane’s last-ditch winner in England’s opening game against Tunisia.
The Maguire family, including father Alan and mother Zoe, have travelled out to Russia en masse to watch the Leicester City star play out every England fan’s dream.
They were pictured together all wearing their replica shirts, with Maguire and number six on the back, as they watched the game in the Volgograd Arena.
The entourage, photographed by former Norwich goalkeeper Bryan Gunn, also includes brothers Laurence and Joe, sister Daisy and Fern Hawkins, Maguire’s girlfriend.
They are expected to travel to watch England’s games against Panama and Belgium in Nizhny Novgorod and Kaliningrad respectively, along with the families of other players, and will be hoping to extend their stay to the knockout phase.
