Country legend Dolly Parton has praised God after achieving her first Christian number one hit.
The 9 To 5 singer recently scored her first number one hit on the Billboard Christian charts with There Was Jesus. Parton performs the duet alongside Christian rocker Zach Williams, who wrote the track with Casey Beathard and Jonathan Smith.
“Well praise the Lord and thank you Jesus I guess is what I say first,” said Parton. “I am just so happy that this has touched the lives of so many people. So proud to be a part of it, so proud of Zach Williams, and we hope that you continue to be blessed by this wonderful song. I know I am.”
Williams said the song is about “looking back at 20 years ago when I had no idea that God was in the moment, that He was even with me through some of the hard things that have gone on in my life. Now I can see that He had His hand in everything I was doing.”
Parton previously opened up about her Christian faith and its impact on her music, crediting faith-based music as the antidote that has helped get her through the worrying times of the Covid-19 pandemic, bringing her peace and restoring her hope.
