Irish singer Imelda May’s Love Tattoo had been announced as the bestselling album of all-time by a homegrown female artist in Ireland.
To celebrate today’s International Women’s Day, the Official Charts Company has released their list of The Top 50 biggest female artist albums of all time in Ireland with May, a Catholic, ranked as the highest Irish artist, placed at number 15 with her critically acclaimed album, Love Tattoo.
Released in 2008, the record is a timeless collection of original tracks from the inimitable songstress. May has since gone on to release three more albums, Mayhem in 2010, Tribal in 2014, and most recently, Life Love Flesh Blood in 2017.
Born and raised in The Liberties area of Dublin, May has become one of Ireland’s most famed female artists in history. Discovered by Jools Holland, who asked May to support him on tour, she has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including Lou Reed, Bono and Smokey Robinson, and has most recently featured on Hollywood legend Jeff Goldblum’s debut album, The Capitol Studio Sessions.
