Carly Paoli the British soprano Pope Francis described as having “the voice of an angel”, will turn back the musical clock today, Friday 8th May, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day with a very special VE Day Singalong.
With a nationwide singalong of We’ll Meet Again taking place this evening following the Queen’s address to the nation at 9pm, what better way to enhance, what perhaps might be your very first public vocal performance, than with Ms Paoli beforehand.
The BBC Music Ambassador who has been singing up a storm on social media during lockdown will be live on Facebook for the her VE Day Singalong from 6pm this evening.
With more than a million Facebook views in recent weeks Ms Paoli will be performing some classic songs associated with the period, amongst which will be Liberty, which Ms Paoli recorded with The Invictus Games Choir with proceeds going to Help For Heroes; Over The Rainbow; A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square; I’ll be Seeing You, Begin The Beguine; Long Ago and Far Away; The Loveliest Night of the Year; and We’ll Meet Again, the song made famous by Dame Vera Lynn which has become synonymous with World War II.
Lyric sheets will be available on Ms Paoli’s Facebook page giving participants the perfect opportunity to tune up their vocal cords.
Ms Paoli was previously described by Pope Francis as having “the voice of an angel”, for her recording of Ave Maria, which became the official song for his 2016 Jubilee Year of Mercy.
