A Romantic couple received a blessing with a difference ahead of 14th February – at the shrine of St Valentine in Dublin.
Emer Duffy and Killian Casey were blessed by Bishop Denis Nulty at the saint’s shrine in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Relics of the saint are interred in the church and are venerated by worshippers.
The newly-engaged couple, of Rathfarnam, are just one of many expected to visit the shrine to mark the most romantic day of the year.
Emer said: “There’s a lovely ceremony in here, and because we knew Valentine was here, when we came for Mass we saw the notice and put ourselves forward for it. It’s lovely to get the blessing, it’ll be a nice thing to remember.”
The Dublin GAA-mad duo worked in the same technology company in 2012, but didn’t see any sparks fly until meeting up socially for a match at Croke Park.
According to Killian: “We soon became strongly emotionally attached and our relationship has grown over the intervening years. We share many interests in life such as GAA, history, culture, travel and family.
“We go to Mass here, and we got the opportunity to get the blessing and it just fit for us.”
Killian proposed to Emer at a restaurant in Spain in October last year with a ‘promise ring’. The pair then booked a trip to Dubai in November where they shared some great moments including picking a proper engagement ring. The couple are getting married in June 2020.
The event was held to promote Accord Catholic Marriage Care Service which is highlighting the benefits of its counselling and the importance of marriage in Irish society.
